Answers:

» " If we are taught in English, how do we communicate with patients who can only speak the Czech Language? "

All Medical Courses in the Czech Republic are taught in the English Language throughout the entire duration of the course.

Foreign students are taught in classes, separate from the Czech medical students. All lectures, practicals and examinations are conducted by Czech teaching staff that are fluent in the English Language.

All foreign students are taught the Czech Language as part of their pre-clinical years (1-2).

Such classes, together with living in the Czech Republic help provide adequate preparation in the Czech Language for the clinical years, where students will be required to communicate with patients.

» " If I have completed exams/years at another recognised Medical School, would I be able to transfer to Charles University and gain exemption for the exams which I have already completed? "

Yes. M & D Europe will assist such students, providing that the student has confirmation on what exams the student has already completed at a University Medical School. Each applicant is treated as an individual case and may be able to have exemption from certain exams and sometimes 1-2 years off their course.

Back

» " What expenses will I have per academic year? "

Tuition fees remain fixed throughout the duration of the course. Therefore students will pay the same tuition fee in the final year as they did for the first year of the Medical course.

The cost of living in the Czech republic is about 1/3 of what it would be for the average students in the UK. The average student is expected to spend about £3000 in living expenses per academic year. This includes accommodation, food travel and books. However, this figure is for general guidance only and expenses vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

Back

» " How much time will I actually spend abroad, away from home, per academic year? "

Most European students have the advantage of being just a 2-hour flight from home. There are at least 2 flights leaving daily from the modern Prague Airport to London Heathrow.

This makes it possible for some students to spend long weekends at home at anytime during the year, if they wish.

Usually, students are able to have 2 months during Christmas and the New-Year, and 2 months during the Summer months. Some students may be able to achieve longer periods at home if they complete their exams earlier.

This is made possible as there are no fixed examination for every student. Students are able to choose examination dates that are suitable for them and their examiner, providing greater flexibility for foreign students.

Therefore, most students on the English Programmes spend about 8 months per academic year in the Czech republic.

Back

» " Will I have to share a room at the University Halls of Residence? "

Foreign students usually share a double room with another foreign student of the same academic year (with a classmate). This is a double room sharing a bathroom and kitchen.

A place at Halls is usually guaranteed for all first year foreign students, and usually thoughout the rest of their course. English speaking Czech students may also live within the same Halls, providing the opportunity to learn the Czech language.

Halls are within 20 minutes by bus or via the Metro (the Tube) and 10 minutes by Taxi to the Medical School or teaching hospitals.

Some students prefer to live in private accommodation. This is available at very reasonable prices, usually closer to the Medical School.

Back

» " Is it possible for my friends and family to visit and stay with me in the Czech Republic? "

Yes. There are usually possibilities for parents to stay with students and guestrooms situated in or very close to the Halls of Residence.

Back

» " What About Medical Insurance and Visa requirements? "

All foreign students are required to have medical insurance during their stay in the Czech Republic.

This can be arranged in your home country or in the Czech Republic at a very low cost.

All non-European students are required to have a Student Visa, enabling them to study in the Czech Republic.

Back

» " Can I get funding from my LEA towards tuition fees? "

No. Currently, in the UK, assistance towards payment of tuition fees is not given to British students that study at a University based outside the UK.

Foreign students must have private parental/personal financial support towards all expenses for study outside the UK.

Back

» " Can I do my 'A' Levels at a British School/College for a place at Medical/Dental School in Britain, and then go to Charles University if I don't get a place in Britain? "

Yes. Any applicant that does not feel ready to study at Charles University may do their 'A' Levels for place in the UK at one of our associated Schools/Colleges in Britain.

M & D Europe understand that studying abroad may be a second option for many British students.

M & D Europe may offer high quality, specialist 'A' Level preparation course for Medical/Dental School entry in the UK.

If students are unable to win a place in the UK, they may then apply to Charles University.
